About Geoffrey

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Geoffrey started their physics career at Bowling Green State University. After receiving a B.Sc. in physics, Geoffrey began an M.Sc., studying the optical properties of colloidal quantum dots under Professor Mikhail Zamkov. Geoffrey then went to the University of Denver to study ultrafast coherent spectroscopy under the supervision of Professor Mark Siemens. During this time Geoffrey was awarded outstanding teaching honors from both the university and the AAPT, as well as the University of Denver Graduate Education Dissertation Fellowship. After graduate school, Geoffrey moved to the University of Washington to work on 2D magnets under the supervision of Professor Xiaodong Xu. During their postdoctoral work, Geoffrey was awarded the ORISE Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. Since August of 2024, Geoffrey has been an assistant professor in the department of physics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where they run a group that combines cutting edge condensed matter and quantum materials research with state of the art optical spectroscopies. Outside of the lab, Geoffrey loves video games, synthesizers, noodles, and time spent with their partner and cats at home.
